Reflections on a year in 365 photographs

Camera Gear *Updated 9/23*

with one comment

I hope to make this project more about the images than the equipment, but I know that some of you will be interested in what is required to do the sorts of photographs you see here.  So here is a quick list of the equipment I use.  I hope to add to it throughout the year as I try new techniques.

          Canon 7D

Canon 40d

Canon SD870IS This one died a horrid death at the hands of a 5 year old!  😦

Droid Eris (5Mpx phone camera)

Lenses, Flashes, etc (for the 40D)

EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM

EF 24mm f2.8

EF 50mm f1.4 USM

EF 50mm f1.8

EF 28-105mm f3.5-5.6 II USM

EF 80-200mm f/2.8L, aka “The Magic Drainpipe”

580EX II

Bogen/Manfrotto 190B tripod

Bogen/Manfrotto 488RC0 ballhead

Rocketfish CF Monopod with ballhead and QR

Impact lighting stands

Wescott Apollo 28″ Softbox

Photek Softlighter IIs in 46″ and 60″ sizes

Lee and Rosco color correction gels

Assorted filters

Processing and printing

Apple iMac 24″

Adobe Lightroom 3

Apple Aperture with assorted plugins (until transitioned away to Lightroom)

Adobe CS5 Professional with associated Photoshop actions and plugins

Canon Pixma PRO9000

Canon and Hannemule papers

I have bags full of older camera gear, including EOS 55 and Nikon F90 film bodies, but I don’t anticipate using them for the project.  And like most males, I’m cursed with the gear geekery gene which compels me to lust after the latest and greatest equipment.  Sure, I’d love a Canon 5D Mk II with its 1080p HD video capability.  And in a perfect world I’d also have an EF 85mm f1.8, EF 70-200mm f2.8, a dozen strobes and RF trigger systems, as well as access to a large studio, etc.  But that’s not what this project is about.  Its about making great images with the best camera…the one in my hand!
