Blowing dandelions into the wind.

Wishers

We took a family walk tonight and ran across this field of dandelions ready to seed.  My son ran into the field and started blowing the seeds into the wind.  After a moment he yelled back “C’mon guys!  Wishers!”  So of course we had to join him.  When asked what he wished for, Ben replied “Big Trucks!”, as if duh, we should have known that!  Priceless.

  1. Very Nice! Was it cloudy or do you have some secret way of not getting the sky blown out? The lighting on him is very soft.

  2. The sky was fairly overcast which meant the total dynamic range was not too great. I exposed to the right so that the shadows didn’t block up, but kept the highlights under control as well. In post-processing, between pulling back the highlights a bit in Aperture and then adding a slight vignette, the clouds gained quite a bit of definition. If there had been too much more sun, though, I would have used fill light on him, but that would have changed the soft mood I was looking for.
