More self portraits in Joshua Tree National Park, using different lighting styles. Some use the sun as the main source, others use a flash. Some use an umbrella, some are bare flash. I had to break out the 25 foot eTTL cord tonight since the Canon wireless didn’t want to play with the direct sun. All in all, I’ve pretty much nailed balancing ambient with flash and getting the look I want. This first one was just fun to do.

WOW!!!!! Playing with a new light modifier tonight. Cost? $0.50! A sheet of black craft foam cut to a 1/2 snoot and attached to the 580EX II with a hair band. Point the flash at a side wall and you get beautiful bounced light mainly from the wall and wrapping from the ceiling. This may become my my main go-to indoor event light mod! The 40D was in manual metered to -1EV. The 580EX was in iTTL at 0EV FEC. So VERY much better than the deer-in-the-headlights direct flash or even direct bounce.
